Week 9 – Post Epic Pi Day Run

After 20 miles of strong running for you IFTFers, and 10 miles for you IFTHs, this week we step back and give those legs a break. Since Saturday is Pi Day, and not just any Pi but Epic Pi Day since its 3/14/15 and at 9:26:53 you can celebrate 10 digits of pi, we’ll call this our Post Epic Pi Day Run! (Yes I am an engineer so I do get some nerdy joy out of this)

The route is simple: Head up Main Street into Wakefield, hitting Water Stop 1 at Nicks). Head up to Lake Q along Main Street and through the Converse Parking Lot over to North Ave. Follow North Ave back to the Water Stop 2, still at Nicks. From there run Nahant Street over to Wakefield High School into Breakheart. We’ll won’t do a full circle of Breakheart, but I think we can do the flat side out to the Saugus side and back (unless someone reports to me that its too icy, this week did a lot to clear snow, but I’m not sure the sunshine and warmth got into Breakheart).  Come back past Wakefield High School, down Nahant, and back to Water Stop 3, still at Nicks. After that Water Stop, head back Main Street to Brueggers and you’re done.

Running the Half Route? You come out to Nicks Water Stop 1. After Nicks Run up to the lake but take a left on Church Street. Take that over to North Ave and take a left to bring you back to the Water Stop, at Nicks. After that run back down Main Street to Brueggers and you’re done.

Water Stops… there’s only one. Volunteers take the week off, I’ve got it!

Speaking of water stops, Jannel, our wonderful water stop 1 helper was feeling sick last week. I hope you’re feeling much better, let me know how things are going.

That’s all I’ve got. Who’s in? Roll Call!!!

Was over at Breakheart on the Saugus side this afternoon. Along the flat side, the pavement was clear for only for 1/3 mile. There was then a thick continuous icy patch where it starts heading downhill, and remained ice/snow covered as far as I could see ahead. Too icy: turned around. Looks like it will need more than one night of rain and warmer temperatures to be safe.

  20. Jim Carson says:

Thanks Mark. With that said, the alternate route is to skip Nahant and Breakheart and instead head back right back to Melrose. We’ll do a waterstop near Melrose Center (keep your eyes open) and then you’ll add on the Melrose Running Club Summer Route. I think you’ll need about 5 more miles, so that’s over to West Wyoming, a right at Grimsby’s, LynnFells to Bellevue?… You’d think after all these years I’d know the MRC Summer Route… left on Porter, right on… Mooreland, right on Upham, left on Lebanon, right on Grove, right on Main St and you’re done. That should do it.

  21. Katie Sinnott says:

With the name of this run it seems only fitting for me to attend! I plan to get in some miles before the run as I missed 20 miles last week, but will also do the full. Thanks Jim! Now time for the math teacher in me to eat PIE!
