Week 8 – A test

It looks like this week will be a big test for those preparing for the Boston Marathon. The distance: 18 miles. The terrain: some hills in the first half of the run. The weather: looking wet, possibly snowy. The good news: every step means you’re one step closer to being ready.

This weeks run will start out with a trip to Breakheart in and out the Saugus side. As the half marathoners head back to Brueggers the marathoners will head towards Farm St in Wakefield, follow Montrose to 129. That will bring them to Lake Quannapowitt, where they’ll loop around to Main St and head back to Melrose. This is one of those runs where you know you’ve gone long because you’ve seen so much along the way.

Water Stops: This week is a tricky one. Five water stops in four locations. I’ll need some volunteers to park their cars in the w/s spots for me, and volunteers to pick them up. I’ll drop supplies off at the cars after the run starts and join in for some of the run along the way. Let me know who can help and how and we’ll figure out the details in the next 48 hours.

So who’s in this week and for what? Roll call!

  7. Joe Terranova says:

My proposal is to be WS 5. Will run 15 with the club and finish at the water stop. Make sense?

  8. Dave Hayes says:

I checked out Breakheart today – appears to be clear of snow and most hardpack on the route, but there’s a lot of debris from the windstorm – lots of little sticks to avoid.

I could park at Comverse for WS4. For the run, I could run through to WS5 and then return to WS4 to pick up the car.

  9. Rachelle Horwitz says:

I can do WS1/2. Jim, please call or email me if you want me to do it.

    I’m in for 18

Pretty sure I’ll be there. See you tomorrow hopefully!

  15. Jim says:

Carol, I hope you are there, you have a water stop bucket. Actually we should be ok without it if you don’t make it… just a little light on Gu.

Speaking of Gu, I have a good amount but most of it is plain or Vanilla so it you can’t make 18 without a special flavor, bring it in the morning and I’ll add it to the supplies as we go.

The water stops: From the posts here I’ve come up with the following plan…

Joe, park at Nick’s pizza (ws5). Lois park at the Lake (ws4). I’ll meet you at about 7:40 with supplies. Nancy meet me at Brueggers. Lois, Nancy and I will send you all on your way and go drop off my car at Wakefield HS (ws3), and meet you at the Saugus entrance of Breakheart (ws1/2) before you get there hopefully. We’ll start there at Nancy’s car and end at Lois’ car for either a 9 mile run or a 12 mile run if we loop the pond… or I’ll just stop at my car for a 6 mile run since I’m feeling especially lazy lately.

    Sound like a plan everyone?
Let me know if any of you won’t make it.
    See you in the morning!
