Week 6 – A Taste of Spring?

This Sunday will be the 6th week of training and finally it seems Mother Nature will be giving us a break. The prediction for Sunday is a complete run with temperatures above freezing for the first time in 2009… plus no signs of precipitation! That’s the good news… the bad news is the planned route goes through Breakheart and despite Tall Dave’s treks through there I’m afraid the ice buildup on the hills will be too risky for the whole group to handle. For those not interested in risking it around Breakheart, the work-around will be to follow the same plan but replace the loop off Farm St through Breakheart with a loop out and around Lake Quannapowitt via Main St and North Ave.

This week’s water stop: Peter has volunteered to park his car at the stop and start his run early. Thanks Peter! With the change in route plan we may need a water stop off Farm St and one off Main St in Wakefield. I may not be running (injured achilles) and would be able to do the Main St stop. If I happen to heal up though we can still use my car but I’ll need a ride in the morning so let’s get a volunteer for that just in case. Anyone?

Now it’s time for the weekly ROLL CALL! I bought a bunch of Gatorade and Snickers expecting a big crowd this week. Who’s in?

My car is a red Suzuki Vitara SUV which will be parked at Wakefield High and the tailgate will be unlocked. Let’s hope for the ice to melt on the paths! At least I won’t have to bundle up as much as I did this week!

  2. Barry Cossette says:

Lauren and I will be there for the long run. I’m only going for the Snickers. See you Sunday morning.

  3. Demi Dubois says:

I’m planning on the full run (glad to avoid Breakheart). I can also pick you up, Jim, if you need a ride. I’ll check back…

  4. Catherine Kane says:

Hi, count me in but for the shorter run. It will be good to see you all again!

I’m in for the long run. Yay for snickers! And for good weather! It’s going to feel tropical compared to yesterdays run. Thanks Jim. Hope your achilles heal quickly.

  6. Joe Terranova says:

I am in….may throw an extra loop around Quannapowitt in or if I brave Breakheart, will loop Quannapowitt….giddyap!!!!

Oh, and I promise to actually look at the map this time.

Jim- When I printed off the map, it printed out two maps, the “alternate route due to snow” map did not include Lake Quannie but instead an add-on around Pine Banks. I would like to do the 12+ long run, but not Breakheart since I ran a marathon last weekend (in a stupid pain-inducing fashion) and would like to run on as flat as possible. Let me know. Thanks! Jennifer

  10. Donna Leggiero says:

I am in for the short run. Looking forward to some good weather. Jim – I am available to pick you up too.

  11. Jocelyn Stanick says:

Weather looks nice and we are around so Kevin and I are planning on joining for the short route… although I think we’ll probably cut off a tad on the last loop and make it 5 miles. Can’t stick around at Brueggers though as he has to be at work for 10:30 for a new student lucheon. 🙂 I’m sure all with have a great run though and we’ll look at the forum for the details after! See you in the am.

  12. Rebecca Pouliot says:

I am in for the short route.

  13. Joanne Piper says:

I have to confess I (for the second time) ate most of the snickers I bought planning to donate them for Sunday runs. Just typing this makes me want to go get another one….I am an addict. Anyway me and my muffintops are going to run 11ish miles. See you tomorrow!

  14. Lois says:

  15. Nancy says:

I’ll be there, not sure where I’m going, but it will be far. Let me know if I can help with a water stop.

  16. Denyce Curis says:

Wow – I haven’t joined the long run group for quite a while… I will be there tomorrow for the short route (or even shorter)… haven’t been running much this winter!
    Looking forward to seeing everyone.

  17. Sue Clough says:

I’ll be there for the full, I’m trying to cut off a mile or mile and a half somewhere, any suggestions?? Or if you have a route that is around 12 but only feels like 6, that’s the one for me! Looking forward to a snickers!

Unfortunatly, I won’t be able to join in tomorrow. I have a sore knee and I’m doing some physical therapy. They told me not to do hard impact exercise. I can ride a bike! I hope I get cleared to run soon. Maybe next week. Have a great run!!!!

I’m leaning against running at all at this moment. Peter, the container will be out on my front steps by 7AM. Demi (and anyone else that offered) thanks for the offer but I don’t need a ride in the morning. I’ll drive out to do the second water stop and maybe jump in for a mile or two or zero.

See you all in the morning!
    Brueggers, 8AM
