Week 14 – A mixed bag

The fall racing is heating up. Last week we had MRC Sunday Long Runners testing their racing legs all around New England. Judi and Catherine ran the Applefest Half in Hollis, New Hampshire last Saturday. On Sunday Tall Dave set his MRC PR at the Maine Half Marathon in Portland. Meanwhile, back in Massachusetts, Beth and Ginny ran strong races at the Apple Harvest 10 Miler in Harvard. Great performances by each of you!

This week a group of our fellow long distance runners will be heading into Boston for the BAA Half. Jen, Denyce, Donna, Jo-Ann, Kristen, Jocelyn, Kevin, Leann… among other MRCers I’m sure. Also this week Walt heads out to upstate New York to run the Mohawk-Hudson River Marathon, his second marathon in as many months. On Monday a bunch of our female running friends will head into Boston for the Tufts 10K for Women… too short and flat for me to mention each person by name though 🙂

Good Luck to all! Especially Jen, who has tweaked a muscle in her back just days before the BAA Half. We all are hoping for the best Jen!

For the rest of us, this week’s route is 12.5 for those running Baystate next week and 7.1 for those who want to run 7.1 miles. In addition there will be a few of us running Manchester or New York, maybe even our Dubliners, I’m planning out a 22 mile route. These plans are up in the air right now and may depend on what type of company we have along the way. So to firm up our plans it’s time for the roll call! What are you thinking for this week’s run?

I’ll be doing my 22 miler along the Charles on Saturday. I have volunteered at the BAA half on Sunday so I’m getting my pain out of the way early:) I’ll miss running with the group! Good luck to all who are running a race this weekend or just tappering in anticipation of something down the road.

  2. Lois Parker Carmona says:

Well, I’ve been on the fence about whether to try and fit my run in on Saturday, or to run on Sunday with whoever shows up.

I want to know who else is in for Sunday.

If I were to run on Saturday, I’d be waterstop support on Sunday. If I were to run on Sunday perhaps I could leave my car on HIghland for the water stop – that way i can do a loop of Spot pond and run to Bruegger’s before 8am to fit in the additional miles to make 22.

On the fence… want to hear what others are doing… please aid me in my indecision… 🙂

  3. Julie D'Andrea says:

    I can’t run this Sunday.

Well, I can, but not after 8am.

So, I will be up at 5am running somewhere or another by myself.

  4. Kelly Walsh says:

I’m in for 12.5. Last before Baystate. Lois, Catherine and I can keep you company for half of your run. I need some pep talks…

  5. Jennifer Rapaport says:

I am also doing my longer run this morning so probably won’t be there on Sunday (almost certainly won’t I mean). Good luck to all the runners taking on the distance this weekend and also to Walt. See many of you at Baystate next weekend! Jen

  6. Carol Carstensen says:

I’ll be there for the 12.5. If someone is leaving there car on Highland Ave, I could pick them up on my way in. Or vice versa – I could leave my car if someone would pick me up.

  7. Tall Dave says:

I’m a 12.5… when I finish I can move my car to a spot, or position it there in advance aided by a ride back to Brueggers for the 8am start.

  8. I am in for the 12.5. I could probably pick someone up if it was needed.

  9. Sue Clough says:

Nancy, Joanne and I did our run this morning so won’t be running tomorrow. If you need me for a water stop, just let me know. My daughter, Dani, and I are available and willing. (And I have one of the bins in my car from last week and the week before, I prefer not the first stop if possible)

  10. Lois Parker Carmona says:

No longer on the fence. I’m in for 22 – will park my car on Highland and start early to pick up some miles. See you all at Bruegger’s at 8!

  11. Jim says:

The plan is Lois will be water stop #1. I’ll use my car and my house for additional water stops for the extended miles. I’ll also be doing early miles and will meet everyone at Brueggers around 8.

    See you then.

  12. Ginny Rowe says:

I won’t be running tomorrow a.m. I’m going to do the Tufts on monday. If you need my help for a water stop, I’m available. Good luck with the 22 miler. It’s amazing that the time has come to taper, bet the rest of you are thinking 12.5, piece of cake, compared to when we were all just starting out. Great job everyone, and good luck to all the BAA runners tomorrow, you’ve worked so hard, you’re completely ready. May the wind be at your back!

  13. Mike York says:

I’m in for around 20-22 and will try to do some early miles too.

  14. Brian Gilroy says:

I’m planning on 12.5. See you in the morning.
