As an estimate I see about 24 people taking the ride to Hopkinton:
22 miles…
Brian, Carol, Christina, Dave, Demi, Ed, Ginny, Joe, Judi, Katie, Lois, Nancy, Peter, Suzanne, Walt
18 Miles…
Matt (or are you just meeting us there?)
16 Miles…
Lauren
Want to do 11 Miles…
Jim
Sue
I would like to use the following cars which would seat up to 27:
(6) Carson Minivan
(6) Rowe Minivan
(5) Tassinari Car
(5) Tall Dave-mobile
(5) Demi-wagon
All these cars are automatic (right?) so anyone can drive them.
The drivers are:
Liz
BarryC
ErinL
1/2 Jim
1/2 Sue
So the only issue is there’s 5 drivers but two of us want to run half the course, which means we need 1 more full time driver or 2 more half route runners. If we don’t get that we’ll either drop one of the cars and have to squish in a little tighter… or Sue and I will run tomorrow and drive on Sunday.
Any comments or suggestions on that plan, let me hear them.
Thanks,
Jim
Thank you Jim.
Where do we meet and what time?
Plan on wet… I may bring an extra pair of running shoes/socks to change midway to prevent blisters in addition to full body glide prep to prevent blisters/chafing where running clothes and skin meet. headwind will be noticed and temps on the course probably in the 40-45F range… we may want to keep the core warm with a windbreaker. Thanks…will check back tomorrow. Walt
Jim!
I am running it with Gina F & a couple of her friends tomorrow. Should be available (if I can walk) to help out on Sunday! Let me know!
Ngl
I plan to run the whole 22 and would like to know if it is OK to bring a second person that would like to run the full 22 also. Let me know.
Jim –
I am suffering from tendonitus and can not run. I will drive and help with whatever is needed. I will also bring a ton of gu and some hard candies, as well as kleenex and advil.
Erin
Walt et al,
We meet before 7AM behind Brueggers. The plan is to take off from Brueggers at 7AM, take a brief stop to visit a restroom in Hopkinton, then take off from the starting line at 8AM.
Nick, any extra support along the route is useful, especially in the later portion of the day. If you want to wait until about 9:00 and give me a call, we can send you out to find the front runners to make sure they’re not neglected.
Jose, the only issue with bringing a friend is we’re running out of seats in the cars. With your friend we would have 27 and that’s just about the limit. Check in later, if a regular SLR runner needs a spot I’ll have to give it to them first.
Erin, thanks for your help, I do need you to be a driver so your misfortune is the marathoners gain.
The map and the water stop plan can be found under the route for this week. If you have anyone looking to help out with water stops you can pass it along to them.
See you all tomorrow.
Hi Jim,
I plan on meeting everyone in Hopkinton, but if you need extra seats, I can meet everyone in Melrose.
Kim will be providing roaming support along the route starting in Framingham. After the run, we can take two others back to Hopkinton for their cars if needed.
My friend Bob and I will meet at BC St Ignatius church and drop one of the cars there and take the second one to the start to meet you guys at 8 AM therefore we will have an extra couple of seats for people needing a ride back to the start. Can some one tell me the addres where mile 22 is where we are planing to finish ? It must be close to the BC church.
I’d like to do the half. I have a corolla that can fit 4 bodies if I take out the carseats. Does that help at all?? I can also skip it and run at home if the logistics don’t work out.
We finish at the church. It’s just short of 22 miles. For those wanting to get a full 22 miles in I suggest they continue down Commonwealth Ave to the next side street and turn around and come back… or follow your Garmin’s mileage… although most people just call it a day at the church.
It looks like Matt is willing to take two passengers back to Hopkinton, if you want to take him up on that Jose, you and your friend can just drive there, up to you.
One more note for everyone… I hear there’s some chance that you’ll end up a little wet before your run is done, I suggest everyone plan on bring a towel and/or a change of clothes in an effort to keep the nice volunteered cars clean.
Excellent suggestions Jim…
I’ve never run 3 and one half hours of what we will run in tomorrow… bursts of heavier rain; then drizzle drizzle drizzle with a decent 8-18 mph headwind and temps in the 40-45F range. I’ll be wearing a billed hat for vision, lathering big-time on body glide in an attempt to prevent chafing/blisters and probably running short sleeved/half vest..tho this latter may be changed. A test of self in cold wet conditions.
Am also bringing an entire change of running clothes (shoes to shirt) for possible use in or Natick should blisters become evident.
I’ll try and post here at 6am regarding any weather knowledge i can be sure of beyond what is written here and already posted by the NWS.
Thanks for setting this up Jim,
Walt
Sounds similar to the 2007 Boston Marathon forecast doesn’t it? We just missed the heavy stuff though.
Jim!
Wow! I did it! The whole 22 miles down to Cleveland Circle! Everyone was out today, Central Mass Striders, Cambridge Running Club, Joints in Motion, Team in Training , the Liver Foundation & a few others groups I did not recognize!
Many thanks to Gina Fiandaca who organized this. We parked at Cleveland Circle & Gina’s friend Mark drove all five of us out to Hopkinton. Just as we piled out of the car, Bill Rogers pulls in behind us & greets everyone. How cool is that?
It’s off down the course we go & I am running with Gina’s friend Paula who Sue Clough knows from Sue’s son’s orthodontist. Sue, Paula says that we should approach her boss for a donation to the MRFW but she will probably want to be on the T-Shirt.
The miles go by fast as Bill Rodgers passes us at mile 6. He is running effortlessly & is soon out of sight as we head into Framingham. But no sooner than we are coming out of Natick into Wellesley, Bill pops up from behind & passes me again. Apparently he stopped for a cup of coffee & a donut!
It turned out to be a beautiful day & the run was a little better for me than last weekend’s 30 K since I took some walking breaks along the way. I did walk/run the hills of Newton but I had plenty of company. As I approached BC where most people finished up, I see Bill Rogers again & asked him: Did you win? His response, “Yea four times!”
Today was a major confidence boost for me since there were no major breakdowns & as I finished up at Cleveland Circle I felt I could turn down Beacon St & head to Kemore Square. Great to see Tall Dave on the course today doing support for the Alzheimers Association.
I am on board for tomorrow & I can drive people (Jose?) from BC to Hopkinton if they want, just let me know!
Nick – that all sounds AWESOME!!! You had the kind of run we all want to have! i’m so happy to hear it. Funny to think of Bill Rodgers eating a donut on the run. hey – whatever works, right. he probably thinks we’re a bunch of snickers cooks. anyways, you had a gorgeous day to run in and all things came together for you. Nothin’ finer!
I’ll probably wish i hadn’t said this, but i’m really excited about this run in the rain tomorrow. i plan on having some fun with it.
Way to go Nick! You had a great day.
Nick you are the man! Great work my friend. And smart, I may add, for dodging the rain that Lois will be regretting she said she is looking forward to. Get some rest folks. Big day tomorrow!
Mary, you’re in for tomorrow.
Everyone be there before 7AM. Cars pull out at 7!
Sounds like a great run Nick! Hope all of you have happy stories like that tomorrow.
I’m calling it a day,
See you BEFORE 7,
behind Brueggers,
Jim
Heavier showers in bands then drizzle. band of heavier showers now may ease by 8am but another band in southwest connecticut may arrive during our run, especially late morning. its 39-41f on our route now and not going up more than 2 or 3 degrees this morning. walt
