Week 12 – Hopkinton to Boston (Part 1)

Last week we did Breakheart, this week we do Heartbreak.

The plan is to leave Brueggers at 7AM on the dot Sunday Morning. Be there 10 to 15 minutes early, the cars will pull out at 7. We’ll get off I495 right before 8AM, take a bathroom stop about a mile before the starting line, hop back in the cars, take a quick picture in front of the Marathon Starter Statue, and you’ll be off. Every 3 miles or so there will be water stop cars stretching the way from Hopkinton to Boston College. A car will be designated as the finish line car holding most people’s clothing so you can change into warm dry clothes at the finish in nearby coffee shops. We’ll congregate outside St Ignacius Church, take another group picture, weather permitting, and head back to Melrose. After that it has become a tradition to head over to the Dockside for a burger and a beer to celebrate the season of Taper Time.

First thing’s first, I need drivers! Typically I need at about 3 or 4 dedicated drivers and 6 or 8 people that will drive half the course and run half the course. Let me know if you’re interested. This is a great opportunity to give back to the Sunday Long Run if it has helped you in the past. Also I need cars, big ones. Even if you want to run the whole thing, if you have a car that can seat more than 4 or 5 people comfortably, the more seats the easier it is to carpool people. So far I have the following:

CARS TOTAL SEATS
Derek 8
Thuy 7
EdB 7
BrianW 7
DaveH 5
Jim 5
Katie/Kaj 4
Walt 4

DRIVERS DISTANCE DRIVING
Derek All
Thuy All
Liz All
DaveH All
Jim All or Half
Lois All or Half
EdB Half
Nancy Half
AudreyP Half
Carleen Half
Gloria Half

Still would like one or two more drivers.

Runners, I can guess who’s coming, but please post here if you plan on running with us. I need to figure out spaces in vehicles so if you don’t say you’re coming and you show up on Sunday, its first come first serve, and typically there are no empty seats to begin with. I’ll start filling in the list as people say they’re coming.

Hi Jim, I am planning on joining the run this weekend – please include me in the count! Thanks! -Kerry

  2. Kerry Armstrong says:

I should have mentioned I am planning on running the full run. Thanks! Kerry

  3. Joe Winslow says:

I always wanted to run the Boston route! I am in for the full.

  4. Walt Drag says:

Good morning Jim and every one,

I’m in for 22… and suffer with.

I’d like my car to be part of the run… Makes it easier for me to get back to NJ sooner after Dockside. To do that, i’d like whoever the drivers of my car, to drive us out (I can hold 5 comfortably). With the hatchback, I can carry gear, wstop materials etc.

The suffering part… not so much the 22 mi… but prefer this be a dry run. It may be, but too much computer guidance information from multiple nations, suggest intermittant cold rain or drizzle with temps mainly 35-45F on the route and some sort of east head wind.

There is still a chance the precipitation will delay or miss south. Precipitation is worded with a reason… its not impossible to have a few ice pellets on this run in this pattern. For now am hoping the storm misses south and most of all, that there will be a willing driver or 2 to take the hybrid and drive it on the course. Its easy to drive…

Aside from the dry clothes change after; mittens, headband or hat, wool socks, wind breaker may be some items needed during this run.

Will update on weather prospects in a day or 3, soon as we see a greater consensus on the probable weather reality.

Looking very much forward–its been an ideal -where is winter- training season down here in Philly.

    Walt

  5. Kerry Armstrong says:

Jim, can you send me an email at Kerry_Armstrong@picis.com?
Angelo was wondering if he could get a bus if you would be interested to make things easier? He has a friend that may be able to help us with that if you think it would make sense? I know you have this down to a science, but just thought I would throw out the offer as a possibility. Let me know what you think. Thanks, Kerry

  6. Judi Chiavetta says:

Jim, I am planning to run the full. I wish I could offer my car but it’s a company car and policy does not allow any other drivers 🙁 Now if I still had the Yaris…….. 🙂 If there is another way I can help just let me know. Thanks!

  7. Jeff Rushton says:

    Hi Jim:

Please count me in for the full…thanks

  8. Katie Sinnott says:

    Hey Jim

Im in for the full. My car needs to be one of the cars on the course (obviously with a spare driver) because I have to leave immediately after i finish the course. I need to be back in Revere ASAP for some stupid work thing. So that means, my car needs to be one of the first cars to get back to BC.

    Thanks!!
    Katie

  9. Katie Sinnott says:

oh and my car is little, but unfortunately i have to leave immediately. stupid work!

  10. Andy Nagelin says:

    Jim,

I will be running the full 22 miles and will need a ride.

  11. Kaj Kandler says:

    Hi Jim,
I’m in for the full and plan to do my usual pre-run 4 miles out from the start. I plan to park my car 4 miles before the start (may be at the first water stop?) and run to the start.
If anybody wants to join me so early, I’m happy to take anybody on board.

Also, my car could be the first water stop. Let me know and I’ll take on the supplies as needed.

  12. michele deangelo says:

    Hey Jim,
I’m in for the full. If you need a car someone can drive mine, I can fit 5.

  13. Dorota Bulik says:

I’m in for the full. I can offer my car as a support. It can fit 4 people comfortably, but it is a stick shift, so not everyone will feel comfortable driving it.
    Thanks Jim for coordinating

  14. Carol Carstensen says:

In for the full – can offer my Honda Civic if you would want it.

  15. Thuy says:

    Jim,
I borrowed my girlfriend’s mini van. I have room for 6 passengers. I am running Sat. So I am at your service for Sun. If possible, I need to request to be towards the beginning so I can be back in Wakefield by 1 for a family event. Thanks,

  16. Carleen Melkonian says:

I am in for half or less if anyone is planning on running that amount.

  17. Ed Bradford says:

Jim: I plan on running about 12, so I can help with water stops for half the full run. Hopefully you team me and my van up with someone else running about half.

  18. Audrey Paradis says:

Count me in for 8-10ish…I can help with driving…I have a Honda CRV…can hold about 5.

  19. Dan Slattery says:

Hey Jim. I’m in for about the last 17-18 miles. I’d like your car to be about 71 degrees, with the seat at a 110 degree angle. Oh, and if I can have a different donut ready for me at each water stop, that would be great.

  20. Lisa Hentschel says:

I am in for the full. Derek and I will be there 6:45 Sunday

  21. Betty Cooper says:

I’m in for the full! If you’re desperate for another car my car seats 5 (CRV) but, 4 average sized people comfortably. I have to drive to NH & back after the Dockside, so I want to limit my time behind the wheel. Especially after 22 mile jog. Please let me know. Alicia Furbush mentioned last night that she was planning to go as far as the beginning of heartbreak hill.

  22. Gillian Petrozziello says:

I’m on the mend after coming down with the flu after last weekend’s Quincy 1/2! I am planning to run about ~18 miles or so this Sunday. I will be carpooling with Lisa Hentschel. Please let me know how i can help in any way! Thanks.

  23. Kathryn Gorczyca says:

    Hi Jim,
I plan to run the full course and would appreciate being in the carpool. I’m a Mystic and I’m training for Boston.
    Thanks!

  24. Liz Tassinari says:

Jim I can drive standard or automatic. So can Lois. If you do need my car could fit 5 (inc driver). I am very flexible so just let me know. Thanks Liz

  25. Gloria Chin says:

I’ll be in for 8-10ish. I can drive or ride or whatever. CRV holds 5 including the driver…

  26. Lois Parker Carmona says:

I wish there was a ‘Like’ button on this blog (Dan).

I’m in for driving my car or any car. Looking forward to serving up some water, Gatorade, Powerade, or an ear-blasting ‘Woo Hoo!’ – it’s whatever the crowd needs (within reason…).

  27. Betty Cooper says:

P.S. I plan on going with Lisa & Derek too, if you don’t need my car.

  28. Alicia Furbush says:

Hi, I want to go but have a minor injury. My plan is to go and do all but Heartbreak. I am going to see how I feel by the end of the week. If I do go, I can drive.

  29. Brian Walfield says:

I’m in for 1/2 to full run?I have the van if needed. Thanks Jim

  30. chas says:

i will be there on sunday running full.

    thanks, Chas

  31. Dave Hayes says:

Explorer (and I) ready to shuttle on Sunday. This will be the fourth year for my truck. I think it knows the way on its own.

  32. jose Viveiros says:

    I Jim,

I aim to do the full distance. Thanks for the rides. If you need yet another car my nissan maxima is available.

  33. Alicia Furbush says:

Jim, I am not going to be able to run due to some nagging IT issues. Going to run closer to home. I am disappointed, but gotta listen to the body. Good luck to eveyone.

  34. Walt Drag says:

Hi! For those that may are interested, here is a weather update:
    320 P Fri 3/23/12

Am planning for at least 1 or 2 wet chilly hours of running on Sunday.

There is no change in the general model suggestions from 3 days ago. There is still a small 25 percent chance we will luck out and have no rain during our 8a-Noon run on Sunday. If no rain…then we have what
i think would be ideal running conditions and temps by noon a few degrees warmer than what i am forecasting below.

Instead, the probable solution. A consensus of computer guidance information from multiple nations, affirms the likelihood for intermittant cold rain showers or drizzle with temps mainly 40-47F on the morning part of the run and some sort of LIGHT east head wind.

The modeled pattern has warmed slightly since 3 days ago. That rules out ice pellets! Yeah!

Aside from the dry clothes change after; during the run….mittens, headband or hat, wool socks, wind breaker are some items that may be helpful to have during this run. I am adding body-glide for chafing issues if indeed it is raining.

I probably wont post anymore after today as I head up with the preparations listed above for my own running anticipated needs.

Please follow local Boston area forecasts from your favorite media outlet.

See you Sunday… 7a on the dot.

It may be good if Jim or someone posts a cell ph contact number, in case one of us has a flat tire on the way up and is delayed 15 minutes.
I plan to arrive at 645 AM.

    Looking forward,

Thank you Jim and everyone at MRC for putting this together!

    Walt
