This week is one of the biggies for those training for Boston but in an attempt to make it seem less overwhelming lets look at it as six small runs around 3 or 4 miles.
Run 1: Brueggers, out by Spot Pond to Forest St in Winchester. 3 Miles we’ve done before, easy!
Run 2: Forest to Highland Ave and follow it to the end. 3 Miles, just two streets, easy!
Run 3: A longer section, out Main St to Medford, a right down Playstead to Rt 60, over to the Mystic Lakes, a zig zag along the Mystic Velly Parkway. This beautiful 4.5 mile stretch will be done in no time.
Run 4: Down Washington St to Forest St. One big hill to finish the 2.5 mile stretch.
Run 5: The backside of Spot Pond. We’ve done that many many times already, a few good hills and another climb to end the 3.5 mile run.
Run 6: Highland, Fellsway, Wyoming and done! This 3.5 miles features a series of hills that will get you ready for the hills of Newton. Remember… “Love the hills, they’ll love you back!”
Water stops this week are all planned out. I will be starting and stopping at water stops 1/4 for a 10 mile run. Anyone interested in running 10 can meet me there to get the more interesting parts of the course in. The Cossettes will be running 14, starting at water stop 2. Judi/Nancy will put a car with goodies out at mile 10.5, water stop 3. And Lois’ car will be found on Highland Ave to provide that one last boost to get you home.
There we go, all taken care of! So who’s in? Reply here so we know what to plan for. Also if you have any water stop requests let me know now so we can have stuff out on the route for you.
See you at Brueggers at 8AM Sunday,
Jim
I am available to do a live (instead of leaving a car) water stop if that is a good thing. I could plan on staying with my car or moving it as needed.
Rick
Jim!
WOW! How organized! I am in, could you throw a bag of Cliff Shots in a few of the water stops?
Thanks,
Ngl
I’m in for the big boy. Giddyap.
Hi, I’m planning to run the 10.2, maybe shorter. You’ll all do great for the 20 miler!
Jim, I have to leave right after the run, I might not be able to get the cookies from you Sunday.
Jim-I loved the pre-cap! Yes, I’m in. See you on Sunday morning!
I’ll be there for the 20! See you Sunday.
Hi all…I will be there for the long haul…thanks for breaking it down, Jim, in manageable chunks…
REMINDER: SPRING FORWARD. Don’t forget to turn your clocks ahead. Otherwise, you will show up at 9 am instead of 8 am and miss the crew. Get a good night’s sleep Saturday (it will feel like a 7 am start!).
I’m in. Not sure whether I’ll do 20 or go shorter, but I’m all in. It’s gonna be a fun (long) one.
I’m in for the 20. It’ll be quite a change-running in shorts versus running in snow and cold at Stu’s last weekend. Too bad I can’t figure a way to bring some cowboy stew!
As Jim already mentioned, we’re in for 14 and looking forward to those warm temps!! Of course, we do have dinner plans tonight and then the time change so we may not be so chipper in the AM – !
I’m in for 20!! (i think im finally recovered from stus!)
Sue C and I ran today- I talked her into it because I have to go to an A.M. cheering competition Sunday. The sun felt SO nice! we went from my house to Breakheart and back for 10. The ice is almost all gone on the Wakefield side from the HS to lodge. Have a good run tomorrow and enjoy the weather!
I’m in for the whole thing. Water stop to water stop definitely makes it seem more manageable. See everyone in the a.m.
As Joanne mentioned, I ran today with her. Maybe I’ll catch you all at Brueggers after your run!
I ll be there for the 20. It should be easier then Stu’s.
remember we are getting up an hour erlier because of DST change tonight.
Thanks for the H2O support.
I’m in for the 6 short runs. And now I know it will be as easy as you made it sound. Looking forward to it!
Ed
I will be there but I am doing the 10.2 (only training for a half).
Erin
I did my long run today. I am sleeping in! Enjoy everyone!
I couldn’t resist running Plum Island today and did 14 flat and fast, so tomorrow I want to go into Bradley Palmer and trail run. Have a great day tomorrow, all.
I love the way Ed descibes it as 6 short runs. Great optimism! I ran today and did Breakheart too. Joanne and Sue how much dog poop did you run through? And smell, omg, it was gross. On the optimistic side, it was beautiful out and my husband and 5 kids met me for a water stop. I have a baby shower in the morning but I will be thinking of the group and probably, not definately, wishing I was with you.
The poop was pretty bad, but I tried to focus on the pretty streams and trees and enjoyed the nice weather.
