Don’t Do Anything Stupid Time

Almost all of us are on the cusp of the big race. Be it Chicago or Baystate, it’s taper time! Time to take it easy, run reduced mileage, and let our body repair what’s injured. Inevitably I hurt myself during taper time. Sometimes it’s running up a stairway and injuring my hamstring, other times is pitching softball practice and taxing my calf muscle, or simple things like stepping on a nail. For this reason I have renamed Taper Time as Don’t Do Anything Stupid Time. From now until our races let’s avoid anything that could jeopardize our races.

This week we’ll be running a 14.8 mile run. This is a little long for those running Chicago next week (NEXT WEEK!?) so we may try to shave a little off somewhere. For those running Baystate it’s a good distance. For those training for a half the route will be 7.1 miles if your half is next week, otherwise you may want to put in one more 10-12 mile run somehow and do 7.1 next week.

Water stops: There are three on the map. Ginny has offered to do one (I think) and Judi has offered to help as well. You two pick the stop you want, I need one more helper, and 2 or 3 people to pick them up. Any volunteers?

Weekly Advice: Just don’t do anything stupid, that’s all you need to remember.

Roll Call: Who’s in for the second to last (official) Sunday Long Run of the Fall of 2009? Brueggers. 8 O’Clock.

I’m in for something more than 7 but less than 14.

I can do a water stop or pick someone up. I’d be happy to do #3 and stop there.

  7. Nancy says:

    I’m in

  8. Catherine Kane says:

Hi, I’m in for the 14.8. I can pick up anyone, if needed and/or water stop help.

  9. Carol Carstensen says:

John and I wanted to do longer (that is I hope I’m not pushing you John into farther than you wanted!) so I could do the stop at Nick’s Pizza. That way we could use it twice. And yes I did register finally for Cape Cod – so I’m committed.

  10. Ginny Rowe says:

I’ll do the first water stop at the bank. I still have some supplies from last week. Can someone pick me up around 7:50? I’m in for the full 14.8. Hard to believe we’re winding down for the big day!

  11. Judi C says:

I can drop my car off at Main and Forest (by Pine Banks) or at any other water stop. Just let me know what works best. I can pick up supplies today and just walk to Brueggers in the morning. Please confirm that this is ok or if you’d rather I put my car somewhere else. The map shows three water stops, but the description only has two so I picked one that was on the map and in the directions. Unless I missed something, which is VERY possible:)

  12. Nick Lamberti says:

    Jim!
In for all or a portion of.
    Ngl

  13. Mary Corbett says:

I’ll do 13 with the Chicago crew. Happy taper to everyone!

  14. Jim says:

Water Stop Update: Ginny’s got WS1 with supplies from last week. Judi’s got the knoll at Melrose Middle School. I’ll pick her up and drop off supplies to her. Julie will take the Nick’s Pizza stop with Catherine or Lois picking her up on their way in. Julie, you can swing by my doorstep in the morning to pick up supplies.

There will be some Gu at WS2 and WS3, water and Gatorade at all the others. As the season winds down so will the supplies, be wary if you’re adding on.

    That should do it.

  15. Rachelle Horwitz says:

I’m in too. This will be my last SLR because I’ll be having visitors next weekend

  16. Carol Carstensen says:

Okay – sounds like the water stops are all set without me. John, we can figure out something for our add on if you are still interested. You can reach me at carolcarstensen@yahoo.com. See everyone tomorrow.

I am in for the 14.8.

I can pick up Julie on the way in, about 7:45?

  19. John Lynch says:

I am in…and Carol, I will email you about tacking on 7 at the end. We can add a waterstop. I am psyched you are doing the Cape Marathon!

In for 12.5… Thank you Jim and everyone,

    Walt

  21. ginny rowe says:

Looks like a plan. Can someone pick me up at the first water stop? Thanks.

  22. Erin Lynch says:

I will be there. I may even add onto the run depending on how motivated I am. I say that because I have been sick all last week after Winnie.

    See you in the morning.
    Erin

  23. Carol Carstensen says:

Ginny, I think John and I are going to add a water stop in that area as well (for our add on) so we could pick you up.

  24. Matt Sazama says:

Unfortunately, I’m skipping this one. Biking in a steady rain is much harder than running in a steady rain. See y’all in Mid October, when I can run again!

    I’m in the the 14.8. 7AM, right?
