Even with an extra day in the year (Happy Leap Day) spring is still taking its time getting here. Another weekend, another snowstorm. What does this mean for us you ask? This week’s route is supposed to be a trip through Breakheart again, and again we may have to bypass it due to snow. We’ll have more on that later.
Before I get to far ahead of myself I want to thank Nick for helping out last week and running the show here in Melrose while I was sunning at the Red Sox training facility in Ft Myers. I did try to get a long run in while I was down there but it was too hot and I had to cut it short. I know, you don’t want to hear about it. It sounds like you had some good running up here, both along snowy Spot Pond and down in Hyannis. Thanks to Lois for bringing us along for the trip via her recap. Oh, and I think I can guess who had the wardrobe malfunction 🙂
So this week…. 18+ for the marathon group and 9+ for the half marathon group. I’ve asked for some rolling water stop support via the forum but haven’t heard back from anyone. The route as it stands is a tougher one to support with water stops in 4 different places. Depending on the snow we may run to Breakheart and let people choose to run the loop there or skip it and add a loop around Pine Banks at the end of the run instead. Let me see what kind of snowfall we get first. (Walt, any input?)
Ok, enough outta me, who’s coming? Post here. Anyone interested in running part of the route and serving as a water stop too, let me know, we can use all the help we can get this week.
I’m in for the shorter run.
Jim, My car can be used for a stop, but I plan on running too. My vote is to go through Breakheart as long as it is as pleasant as the prior snowy Sunday.
Hi Jim, we can use my car too…
as for snow a solid 4-6″ inches packed smooshy snow as it warms above freezing at 8am and snow clings to trees. small amount of melting Sat aftn…’
Below freezing with wnw wind 20 gusting near 40 for the sunday morning run
Temps warming above freezing by 10a but wind is a factor..mittens, ear covers, maybe a face mask…wool socks for me… final clothing ck at 715am Sunday. a
Am running 20 (slight add on at the end). let me know what you need!
Working a midnight tonight, so out of contact til 3P Sat,
Welcome home Jim!
Walt
I plan on attempting the 9 mile route, even though I still have to figure out where it is! If you could use my car for a later water stop, I can drive to wherever it might be needed by 10a.m., after I finish running. I just have to head out by 10:45. Just let me know how to coordinate this.
Jim!
I hope to run tomorrow. I gave the majority of the water stop supplies to Peter last week. Hopefully you got them by now. I will bring remainder of the supplies (1 gal of water & a bag of snickers) to Breugger’s in the AM.
Ngl
Jim, I’m going for the 18. I’ll do a water stop if need be. Supplies needed? I currently have nothing. Gu, fig newtons, etc?
I’ll check the forum again tonight.
Welcome back to reality!!
I’m in for the whole shebang. You can use my car too.
I’ll be there, too. I was planning on doing about 13; after the 3rd ws heading down Main St. back to Brueggers, but I can modify if you still need someone to do a roaming ws. I’ll just have to drive someones car. I’ll check back late tonight.
Ginny
I’m in for the 9 mile run. May tack on a couple extra miles at the end-see how I feel.
Hi Jim
I am pretty sure I am going to be there but probably only can do about 6 miles. I figured I could run to breakheart and back for about 6. It has been awhile since I have been there on a sunday. Thanks!
I’ll be here.. bu plan on runnig 6 miles (have been out of town.. and away from running for the month of February) !! Looking forward to seeing everyone.
I will be there too – planning to run 6 miles.
See you in the AM.
I will be there. I would like to add on a couple to make 20 slow miles.
Ok, let’s see…
Mike Quigley might volunteer for water stops but unless I hear from him soon we’ll have to work out a different plan. So here’s what I’m thinking:
Nick, Can we use your car for WS3 and have Walt pick you up? Do you have enough supplies to work that stop? Walt can you pick him up?
Joanne, leave your at WS4 Comverse at the Lake. I’ll pick you up at 7:40 and we’ll meet Nancy at Dunkin Donuts. We’ll leave my car there and Nancy will take us all back to Brueggers. You can take her car and supplies to WS1, Breakheart in Saugus, start your run there (mile3) and end it at your car (mile 12, for 9 miles total). Then you can just leave from there after all the runners come through.
That will mean Nancy’s car will end up as WS1/2, Nick’s WS3, Joanne’s WS4, and I’m WS5.
Does that all make sense?
If MikeQ is helping us out then he’ll take WS1/2, we’ll still need Nick/Walt to handle WS3, Mike can head over to WS4 after everyone is through there, and Nancy/me will handle WS5.
PLEASE post here if I mentioned your name so I know this has some chance of working, then check back in the morning to see the final plan. Thanks everyone!
Jim
