Good afternoon Melrose Running Club and runners in general...
The Assault on Mount Hood, scheduled for its 14th year, is in serious peril of happening this year. I've spoken with Brian Slater, the MRC Race Director for AOMH, and the following is where we are at today:
1. The Fish and Game has internal factions that are opposed to race happening, or at a minimum, won't sign off on it. Last year's negative impact to the bathrooms and plumbing are most likely a factor.
2. Brian is looking at the Clubhouse at Mt. Hood, and varied options to keep control on costs, but his daily attempts to the head of Golf Mgmt. LLCC for a decision have generated no reply.
So, I would suggest all clubs (Mystics, Colonial, etc.) who have this race as your Grand Prix Race for December, to make contingency or alternate plans as Brian and the MRC don't want to hold you hostage any longer.
We all enjoy this race, and communication shouldn't be this hard! If any change to this update, such as good news on Option B to maintain the race, occurs, we'll let you know immediately.
Thanks to all for your patience, and happy running,
Dan Slattery
