More December 5Ks

November 20th, 2020 No comments

I just added three more virtual 5Ks for December

Pete Fretes 5K

Run between December 5th and 13th. Registration is $25.

After five successful years of raising enough funds to build and maintain Pete’s Park in Beverly, this year we are contributing all funds raised to the Sean M. Healey and AMG Center for ALS at Mass General.

Funds will be allocated to immediate use in a groundbreaking expanded access program, funding the home-care component as part of the partnership between the Healey Center and Compassionate Care ALS.

This program honors Pete’s legacy, and the Frates family’s focus on prioritizing more accessible homecare for those who are directly affected by ALS.

This race allows teams.

Festivus 5K for Autism

Run this race between December 13th and 20th. Registration is $25.00

Your registration fee and any additional donation will help fund COVID-19 education expenses for students with autism at the Northshore Education Consortium in Beverly, MA.

Fitzgerald PT/Melrose Fire Virtual 5K Run/Walk

Run this race on December 6th. Registration is $35 and they do not have a teams option.

They specify running at 11 AM, but it is a virtual race.

A portion of this year’s proceeds will go to the Melrose Fire Department Boston University EMS Scholarship Fund.

This will allow a Melrose, MA graduating Senior to attend Boston University’s Emergency Medical Technician Program. Boston University is one of the nation’s top ranked universities has been training Emergency Medical Technicians for over 20 years.

Cupid’s Chase 5K postponed

February 12th, 2017 No comments

As most of you know, the Cupid’s Chase 5K was postponed.

The sidewalks around Lake Quannapowitt were plowed but not well enough to accommodate a large group of runners. While most runners would have run in the street, the snow banks made the roads narrow and more dangerous for runners.

I hope that postponing the race to February 18th won’t inconvenience too many people. I know I plan my races around work and family events. Sometimes I race two weekends in a row and a situation like this would be an issue.

Winter Weather

This time of year anything can happen. Two years ago snowmageddon started this way. A good storm the week after The Super Bowl and then one storm right after the other.

The Sunday Long Run was a challenge this weekend. It was snowing, the streets were narrow and the side walks were in rough shape.

There is a blizzard watch being posted sometime Sunday. Hopefully it wont amount to much and there will be time to clean it up before next weekend.

So hang in there and I’ll look to see you next week in Wakefield!
