Fall Racing Series Updates
Posted by Andy Nagelin in Club Races on August 27, 2020
I have completed the September schedule and made some updates for October and November. December is still too far off to worry about.

Virtual Boston 2020
If you had a bib for Boston 2020 you can run the first Virtual Boston Marathon. We have several people signed up and they have been training all summer!
Let us know if you are running.
The virtual race can be run between September 7th and September 14th.
David Curley Memorial 5K
You can run this race between September 19th and 26th and registration is $25.
You could even run this race on our Tuesday Night Club Run.
If you haven’t heard, we meet in front of Melrose High at 7PM. We observe social distancing and masks are required. We go out in groups of two or three based on each runners pace.
Superhero 5K or 10K for Rett’s Roost
Race dates are September 18th through September 20th and registration is $25 for either race.
Wicked Half
Run this half for the wicked good price of only $25!
Race dates are September 25th through September 27th.
MelroseWakefield Healthcare Virtual Stride 5K
Show your support for the dedicated folks at Melrose-Wakefield Healthcare! Run the virtual 5K to show your real love.
Race dates are September 26th through September 27th and registration is $25.
BayState Marathon, Half and 5K
This is the last marathon in the 2020 Melrose Racing Series. You can also run the half or the 5K. Race date is October 18th.
Take your pick and register for $30! That’s a great price for a marathon or a half.
Race cancellations and high hopes
It looks like BlueCross BlueShield of MA cancelled The Island Run this year. The Malden Irish American cancelled their Labor Day weekend races also.
The Harborside Half and 5K have also been cancelled.
The Melrose Y still has the Spooky Sprint as a live event on October 31st.
Tuesday Night Club Runs
I know it’s hard to get out the door these days. My miles are way down and I still haven’t caught the bug for these virtual races.
Stop by Melrose High on Tuesday night at 7PM for some responsible running. And you get to hang out a bit and talk to people in person!
Just no post run beer drinking and definitely no pizza!
100 Mile Club Update
Posted by Andy Nagelin in Club Races on June 28, 2020
Since early March when we went into CORONA Quarantine all races have either gone virtual or been cancelled.
Since no end appears in site, the Board changed the rules for the 100 Mile Club for 2020.
In order to allow people to maintain their 100 Mile Running Club streak, for 2020 we will have a Virtual 100 Mile Club.
Miles from any ground races will count. So you won’t loose what you had.
2020 Virtual 100 Mile Club Rules
In order for a virtual race to count towards the 100 Mile Club, it needs to meet the following criteria:
- You have to register for the race and pay a registration fee or make a donation of at least $25.00.
- The race organizer has to post finish times somewhere online.
- Once your time is posted, you need to send the link to the results to Thuy Dang.
- The race must be part of the MRC Racing Series.
Enhanced Racing Series Schedule
To enable you to run 100 miles through Race Series races we will be enhancing the Race Series schedule.
We are currently expanding the schedule. We will be adding the Baystate Marathon and Half and the Boston Marathon. Each month will have at least one half marathon.
You will have the opportunity to run races you normally might not be able to because they are too far away, or sell out too quickly. IE, The Falmouth Road Race and Juneau Marathon and Half Marathon!
If you decide that virtual races are not for you, sitting out 2020 will not disrupt your running club streak. We will pick up where we left off in 2021.
Race dates listed are the last date that you can report your results to the race organizer. Some races give you two weeks to run and report your results, some have a specific date to get ‘er done!
It is up to you to register for races that are part of the MRC Racing Series, run the races and report your results to the race AND to Thuy.
Stay tuned for updates, get out there and have a good time and let The Board know if you have questions.
Run well my Friends,
Andy
